System Freezes after lastest recommended updates

Anyone help?

I just download the "recommended" patches from microsoft
for XP. I am running a novell client on the system.
Now, the system just freezes. It will boot up. Then in
a few minutes, the system just hangs.

Any suggestions. I am very frustrated.
