system freeze on capturing + camcorder not detected by XP

configuration:
- ACER TM 233 LC notebook, Windows XP home OEM with ALL
newest updates (clean installation)
- new DeLock CardBus Firewire 3Port (IEEE 1394 compilant
hostadapter) for the PCMCIA slot
- new Canon Camcorder mv650i
- new firewire cable 6-4
-------------------------------------
When plugging the Firewire adapter, the necessary drivers
are automatically installed by device manager.
When plugging the camcorder, most of the times just
nothing happens - eventhough I installed the XP patch
Q329256 for correct firewire enumeration, the camcorder is
almost never recognized. If the camcorder is detected
(maybe one of 20 times), I start video capturing
(MovieMaker 2) and suddenly the whole system freezes
completely after a few seconds -> hardware reset is
necessary.

WindowsXP automatically sets 4 times the same IRQ "17" for:
- Crystal WDM AC'97Driver for ICH4 (Audio-Controller)
- O2Micro OZ6912-CardBus-Controller (PCMCIA-Adapter)
- VIA OHCI-compilant IEEE 1394-hostcontroller
- driver for the internal AC'97 Link modem
might this be a problem ?
In the System-information program (msinfo32.exe)
everything shows "OK".

Please help me to resolve this !
Is there any WORKAROUND immeadetly available ???
I am a software engineer, but I really dont know what to
do - after trying everything for 3 days now.
Is it necessary to change certain BIOS parameters like PCI
IRQ Routing ?

Many thanks in advance,

Constantin Coreth

The problem was finally resolved just by changing the firewire adapter card.
The DeLock CardBus adapter is just unusable and does not fulfill what it promises !
I lost a lot of time, energy and motivation until I found the solution.
Therefore I can recommend to all of you, who might have similar problems:

Try different hardware configurations first !!!

I am having a similar problem re freezing with a Canon DV MV600i. Am using a Belkin PCMCIA card and have tried a different card (same brand) a different Camera (same brand and model) and can get it to work on my laptop with Win98 but not my laptop with Win XP Pro. Can you tell me what brand cardbus adaptor you are using?
