video capture device not detected

Hi,

I have a sony trv-950 camcorder and winxp pro installation
that was working great to capture my video via a firewire
connect as dv-avi.

Now (no new software installed or updates applied), for
some strange reason, neither moviemaker2, premiere, dvio
or windv can recognize my camcorder.

I have all updates from windowsupdate, I have reinstalled
directx, sp1a, and removed and reinstalled the firewire
card.

The firewire has an entry under 1394 IEEE and is working
and I can see a DV IN when I am connect BUT nothing will
recognize it.

I have tried turning off the camera and connecting when
live. I have tried reinstalling movie maker.

Nothing helps. I am running at wits end any help would be
appreciated.

Also I have a 1394 Net adapter under networks. Sometimes
I wonder if it is trying to network to the firewire card
and is just busy because if I try to delete it under
network connections, it wont let me.

If I delete the 1394 net adapter and remove all traces in
device manager under safe mode, winxp just reinstals it
when I restart.

The USB connection to the camcorder works fine but the
quality is poor.

Please anyone to get my system going again I would
appreciate it. My last resort is a clean install on winxp.

thanks

Under the 1394 NIC entry in the Device Manager, right click on it and select
Disable.

Just occasionally you have to find a work around to XP continually trying to
find hardware you don't want to use but cannot actually uninstall!

Hi,

Thanks for the response. I disabled the 1394 device in
winxp, but winxp still does not recognise the camcorder.

The funny thing is that the registry has the sony camcoder
listing in it when i search for it. I still remember (the
first time i hooked up my camcorder)that winxp had found
the camcoder as a sony device and installed all the
drivers and even asked me which program I wanted it to
open in.

Any more suggestions or is there a way to reinstall the
MSDV or sony dv drivers. I did right click on msdv.inf
and installed them that way but still no go.

any help is appreciated. thanks.
