Hi
Can someone please confirm to me whether or not its better having your
system files on a seperate partion to that of your program files. I have
read a few posts were people say that this is a better way of doing things
but I don't really understand the benefits of doing my machine this way.
Thanx Simon

There's no benefit. You can keep your T_shirts and sockes in the same drawer or different drawers.

It allows for easier recovery and updates. You can do a re-install of
the operating system or a new install and still have all your data and
personal files safe.

It is a good idea, but not a necessary one for most users. Those who do
a lot of "on the edge" stuff should do it however.
