I am trying to install a game I used to play alot. I have reinstalled windows
since then and now the game will not install a box pops up that states
c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running
MS-Dos and Microsoft Windows applications. It says 16 bit Windows subsytem
across the top. What is this? And how to I fix it? Thanks!

Will,

A lot of us are seeing the same thing. I found what was causing it here
using the Audit command. It turns out that a file called "Windupdate.exe" was
deleting my Autoexec.nt file after a boot. Look for the folder \Program
Files\Windupdate. If it is there delete it! Don't confuse it with Winupdate.
Go to your registry and remove all references to Windupdate. Put your CD in
and expand your Autoexec.nt file back to your \system32 folder. You can't cut
and paste it. All should be ok now.

I am having the same problem.
I did not find "Windupdate" folder or .exe, I found 2 refere3nces in my
registry and deleted them but the "Autoexec.nt" is still getting deleted when
I reboot. Anybody got any other cures?

I used add/remove programs to remove "Winad" and that solved my problem.

Thanks all that replied
