System File Checker ?

Is there something like SFC in XP Home, so that I can reinstall a file that
may be corrupted or may be causing probs in an app? A win message came up
upon boot, indicating that "user32.dll was relocated..." because a directX
file occupied an address range reserved...(more, non-understood). I've
looked all throught XP help files but found no entries. What to do ?

The error message you're seeing may be the result of having
installed a recent update from Microsoft. There's a fix
available from the following web site.

The Realtek HD Audio Control Panel may not start, and you
receive an error message when you start the computer: "Illegal
System DLL Relocation"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/

FYI, SFC /scannow works the same way in XP Home as it does in
any other version of XP. However, it probably will not fix your
problem.

Good luck

Many thanks for that. I have the same problem as the OP and that has solved
it.

When I run sfc it asks for my XP CD - and I have one of those systems where
the supplier has hidden the XP files on the hard disk and supplied a
recovery disk!! So no run!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't this fix an error caused by
Windows Automatic Updates? If so, can someone 'splain me why it's
not being downloaded as part of Windows Automatic Updates?

I think it's not offered there because not all users with Realtek hardware
run into this problem. JMO

Many thanks to the helpful responders. Ran SFC, long time running, was away
from 'puter when it concluded, no report given, so all must be OK, but
judging from the warning message at every bootup, it ain't so.
Would it help te redownload/install DirectX? Probably not, just a shot in
the dark. Seems to be no way to delete current DX files, to prepare for new
install.
The warning "user32.dll reallocated...app *will* not run properly"..."vendor
supplying the dll should be contacted" is confusing. If user32.dll not
running, I should have plainly observable bad effects, not so? Or, is the
messagge just a nuisance to be ignored?
Your further thought much appreciated.

Rob, did you see the link posted by Nepatsfan and Patti? I think you should
check that out next. Here it is again:
"Illegal System DLL Relocation"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448/

If the above does not help and you're stuck with it, I think it's safe to
say "ignore" if all you're seeing is that single instance (startup) and yet
everything seems to be working okay.
