I have had some sort of alert come on my screen from Microsoft Internet
Explorer, saying data or system errors, recommended scan by System Doctor
2006. Is this genuine, do I have something wrong on my computer, or what.
Should I download this software

What you had come up on your screen is an ad to download and buy System
Doctor.
You need to go into your IE tools and set your popup blocker to a higher
level.
I dont know if you have Anti Virus....but if you dont get one and update it
regularly.
A few other free anti ad /malware programs are Spybot
Search&Destroy.....Lavasofts Ad-Aware SE personal ...Spywareware Blaster.
All of these can be found easily by doing a Google search.

No, it isn't genuine.

It's an ad, intended to scare you into giving them money.
do I have something wrong on my computer,

Only the ad and a lack of popup blocking software. It *is* possible that
your system has some minor adware infection, but that app will not fix it.

No, you should not.

You should use a popup blocker, though, for example the ones that come with
Google or Yahoo toolbars.

Also, get and run ccleaner - www.ccleaner.com - this will clear the
temporary file folders, which is where much of the adware type infections
take root from. Once it's installed and you have set it up and run it
once, run it regularly by right-clicking on the recycle bin and choosing Run
CCleaner. This will take a second or two and will not interfere with what
you're doing.

Denise:
If you were wakened in the middle of the night by a stranger who told you
that your home is insecure and you should buy a home burglar alarm from him,
you would instantly know that he is a criminal, not a legitimate business
man.
You should apply the same logic to strangers who break into your computer.
