WINDOWS WON'T LAUNCH AFTER NORTON SYSTEM WORKS INSTALL

Installed Norton System Works on a perfectly good computer that has never
given a problem. Ran the "Win Doctor" program on Norton System Works. The
Win Doctor program called out several Windows issues and recommended fixes.
I let Win Doctor "fix" the issues. Now, my Windows stops when trying to
launch with the following "STOP" 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0xF7C8C392,
0xF895833C, 0xF895803C)

I was able to install Windows into a 2nd directory, giving me the 2nd
Windows operating system. The 2nd Windows system will launch and run fine.
However, all my programs and files can not be accessed under the 2nd Windows
operating system.

What can I do to access my programs/files using the 2nd Windows operating
system that is working? Or, is there something I can do to correct the
problem with my original Windows system?

Thanks for all help.

maybe its an issue of
ownership. you might as
well forget about any
kind of system/program files.

but the personal folders might
be available:
http://search.microsoft.com/results.aspx?mkt=en-US&setlang=en-US&q=take+ownership+of+files

also, it is really/very disturbing
to hear the crap Norton causes for
many people who spend good money
for the program and innocently
install it and loose valuable
time and data....

since it is new, have you
raised hell with their c.s.?

db - Thanks for the reply. Looking at the link you cited, I would need
access to the folders with Windows to take ownership. I can't launch my
Windows program so I don't see this helping. I do appreciate the input
though. And, yes, I will be "talking" to Norton's Customer Service about
this. Thanks again.

you're welcome.

possibly you can
access those folders
via recovery console
and using the old fashion
dos commands...

You could try to restore the system to a time before the problem.

If that doesn't work out you could try a Repair Install.

db - I tried the recovery console earlier but couldn't get it to launch
either. Again, thanks for the input.

Brian - Thanks for your reply. I'm not sitting at the broken computer right
now, but I'm not sure if it will boot in Safe mode w/command prompt. I'll
try in a few minutes and find out. When this problem surfaced I attempted to
reinstall Windows in the same location but the warning about "possibly"
losing data made me change my mind. So, I installed Windows in another
location. This "2nd" Windows system works fine but I can't run my programs
or access my data files I had saved while using the original Windows. Is
there anything I can do from within the 2nd Windows system to fix the
original Windows system or can I pull my programs/files from the original
system into the 2nd Windows system? I'm not the most computer saavy guy so I
apologize for any stupid comments/questions here. And, again, thanks very
much for you assistance.

db - Ok, you'll love this one. Earlier today, I did try the technical
support via Symantec's chat w/a tech option. My chat session was obviously
w/someone "offshore". After a long and painful session that included 3
different "escalations", they advised me to contact my "system vendor". Nice.

simply "unbelievable"!

maybe you can download
a trailware of acronis
disk director.

maybe, it can scan
that drive. if so,
the contents will
appear in a window
but the drive won't
be repaired without
purchase of the program.

i'm not suggesting to
buy it now or that it
will work. however,
if you were unable
to view the drive, but
the program was able
to then it might be
able to repair it or
give you some kind of
status or clue...
