I have just had a very strange thing happen. I was browsing the web when I
have a screen come up saysing System Errors and to scan using System Doctor
2006. This seemed as if it came from microsoft. Is this genuine. Do I need
to download this and scan my computer. Never heard of this before

Hi Denise:

Yikes!! I can say with certainty that this did not come from Microsoft--
likely a scam. When I run across one of these, I back out using task manager
(NOT the exit route indicated by the website which could in reality be a
spoofed authorization to proceed with some download). If you have up-to-date
virus scanner, run it in safe mode right away. If you do not have such, get
one.

Good luck

PS The window was headed Microsoft Internet Explorer, and this scan was
recommended

No it's not genuine. Do not download, it's a scam at best and spyware or
virus at worst!

When it is headed Microsoft Internet Explorer it means that there is no name
on the website. If you look closely all windows have that in the heading.
Never ever fall for tricks like these online. So many fraudulent programs
are out there never trust any of them. The spyware that this one found was
itself because it was successful in loading part of itself onto your machine
to create this pop-up ad. NEVER trust these. Go to:

http:\\housecall.trendmicro.com

run the house call scan and clean your computer.

Good Luck

Task Manager is useful for lots of things- like closing a "hung" program-
and worth exploring as you gain confidence with your computer. General info:

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...ocs/en-us/taskman_whats_there_w.mspx?mfr=true

For this specific circumstance, it would guarantee that your "exit" from
that intrusive website was accomplished by YOUR system and not theirs. The
text that you see on a website's selections does not necessarily describe
what the selection is encoded to do; a selection that says "exit" or "cancel"
could hide a computer command to do just about anything. A Malicious website
that wants you to accept a download could trick you just by changing the
wording of the dialogue box. If you exit using Task Manager, there is less
likelyhood of deception and the results are more certain.

PS: I am not saying that you should use Task Manager for all purposes. Nor
am I saying that all websites are intrusive or deceptive.

Hopefully it was just an annoying but relatively benign pop up. However, I
can assure you it can be much worse than that. Any "popup" that offers to
scan your machine should be treated with great suspicion-- especially if it
seems to have some control already, such as not closing when you click the
red X to close its nasy little dialogue box or confirmation box..

System Doctor 2006 is a bogus program. I would recommend
installing Windows Defender to help prevent the intrusion of
spyware and other malware in your computer.

I do have Windows Defender, and it certainly did not stop this one, I have
run WD again, Ewido and McAfee, and nothing has showed up all clean so, I
hope this has stopped. I did close the window down on this pop up. I think I
will install Spyware Blaster as another
