Empty your Temporary Internet Files.

To delete *all* of your Temporary Internet Files...

1) Start | Run | Type: inetcpl.cpl | Click OK
Or right click the Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop
Or Start | Settings | Control Panel | Internet Options
Best to do this with all instances of Internet Explorer closed. Especially
if there are a large number of files. Also close OE.
2) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
3) Check the box: Delete all offline content {This cleans >>
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
AND
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
and \Content.MSO (Created by an MS Office program)}
4) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the
temporary internet files
5) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that
websites have placed on your hard drive.
6) You can also click on the Clear History button to empty your History
folder.

If you want, try this: Open IE | Tools | Internet Options | Advanced tab |
scroll down to the bottom | check: Empty Temporary Internet Files folder
when browser is closed | Click Apply | Click OK. Entirely up to you, but if
you
want to be rid of this, it is done automatically. Deletes the content of
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files but not the Content.IE5 or Content.MSO folders.

Also: Start IE | Tools | Internet Options | General tab | Days to keep
pages in history: 0 | Click Apply | Click OK

What are you trying to download?

Sometimes you get

XYZ is not a valid Win32 application

if there is something wrong with whatever XYZ is.

Try downloading directly to your Desktop instead of somewhere else. It will
be easier to find the downloaded item.

If you right click the download link and select Save Target As, the Save As
dialog will pop up.

If you left click a download link, the File Download dialog will pop up.
Click the Save button and the Save As dialog will pop up.

When downloading, when the Save As dialog pops up, click on the Desktop icon
on the upper left (Called the Places bar).

Places bar
[[Provides shortcuts to places on your computer or the network from which
you can open a file, such as the History folder, the desktop, or My Network
Places. When you click a location, it will appear in Look in, and the files
and folders in the selected location will be listed at the right.]]

If you click the Open button on the File Download dialog it will try to open
or run whatever you are trying to download instead of downloading it to
where you can find it. Yes, whatever will still get downloaded to your
machine, but it gets located in your Temporary Internet Files folder. The
TIF folder is TEMPORARY and harder to find things because some of those
locations in the TIF are HIDDEN from you.

You can also create a folder in your My Documents folder called My Download
Files or My Downloads or whatever name that you want. You can download
everything to that folder and then know where to look
