I down loaded Microsoft Office trial version and saved to my Desk Top. When I
click on the icon I get the message "C:\Documents and
Settings\HP_Administrator\Desktop\Office.exe is not a valid Win 32
application.

Probably a corrupt download - re download.
(If they publish a CRC on the download site check this too)

And verify you are downloading from a reputable site. You should download
from Microsoft to ensure validity.

Delete the download on the desktop.

CRC stands for Cyclic Redundancy Check. Years ago it referred to the
packet number and its reciprocal (totaling 256), that used to be
attached to the start of a download packet so Kermit or Xmodem (two
early download protocols) could detect a repeat of a previous packet.
This could happen when an ACK or NAK was misread and a packet was
repeated. (There was a lot of "noise" back then, so quite a few errors
in transmission.)

Today's reference to CRC is a misnomer, I believe, and should probably
be called a "Checksum" as that's probably what would be published: a
checksum showing the total of all bytes, possibly ANDed with 256, 65536,
or some other number.

Just my opinion.. some facts, some failing memory.

I have deleted the original download and will try another download later
tonight and try this again. Thanks to everyone for the help and info.
