System disconnect

Hi,

I have a single phone line and use a dial up account.

Years ago, when people used to telephone me, my modem would disconnect
and let the call come through.

I'd like that to happen again but can't seem to make it work.

I tried having call waiting on but the computer seems to ignore the
beeps rather than disconnecting and I miss the call.

I really can't afford another phone line or broadband... is there a way
to make this auto disconnect on incoming call happen? I've scoured the
net to no avail.

Thanks

Kim

Are you using the same computer and modem now that you were using years ago
when this feature worked? If not, it may be that your current modem does not
support this feature, in which case you may need to change the settings for
this modem or replace it with a modem that supports this feature. There is a
lot of information on the internet about this problem, e.g.,
http://www.modemsite.com/56k/v92moh.asp . Do you have other devices plugged
in to your phone line (apart from your main phone) such as extension phones,
answering machine, or fax machine? This can affect modem behaviour. Try
unplugging everything apart from your main phone. We might be able to help
further if you tell us the make of your modem. Good luck.
