System Configuration Utility

I need to run my computer in Safe mode, but whenever I try to bring up the
System Configuration Utility, it almost immediately closes. It'll appear
for a split second, and then just disappear.

Can anyone please help?
 
Press F8 during boot and select safe mode? That work?
