Hi,
I am running Nero Burning Rom 6.6.0.5 and i am missing the DVD writing option
in the New Compilation Box on start up.
I have run the Nero Tool kit and it informs me that i have no System Aspi
files installed.
.. wnaspi32.dll
.. aspi32.sys
.. winaspi.dll
.. wowpost.exe

Can some one tell me how i reinstall the above files from my system disk
( Windows XP Pro' ) with out having to reinstall windows?

Yours gratefully

I am running version 4 of InCD and version 6.6.0.5 burning Rom.
I have now managed to install
v 4.71 (0002) WNASPI32.dll & ASPI32.sys
v 4.60 (1021) WINASPI.dll & WOWPOST.exe
and this has given me the DVD write option when Nero starts,
My new problem is that Nero still fails to find my Samsung CDR/DVD SM-332B
drive.
When i select the burn option the write speed selection is blank and there is
no continue option?
I have run Nero toolkit and the supported read features are has follows>>

CDR [/] DVD-R [/] DVD+R DL [ ]
CD-RW [/] DVD-RW [/] CD Text [/]
DVD RAM [ ] DVD+R [ ] CD+G [/]
DVD-ROM [/] DVD+RW [ ] C2 Errors [/]

and the supported write features are as follows>>

CDR [/] DVD-R [ ] DVD+R DL [ ]
CD-RW [/] DVD-RW [ ] Mount Rainier [ ]
DVD RAM [ ] DVD+R [ ] Buffer underrun protection [ ]
DVD+RW [ ]

Modes: Packet, TAO, DAO, SAO, RAW SAO, RAW DAO, RAW SAO16,
RAW SAO96, RAW DAO16, RAW DAO96

I had this problem and in the end I found that InCD is not compatible with
XP.

I uninstalled InCD and after that Nero worked fine and always found my
CD/DVD drives.

You may need to take a look at the update packages offered for Nero. Do

Ok, run the Nero info tool and post the ID string for the drive in question
and the firmware ver # and the full make model on this drive word for word,
off the box too if you still have it. Did you install the drive yourself?
Again, ASPI is only relevant for SCSI drives, so we need to make sure your
drive is SCSI or IDE compatible or both or one or the other. Is the drive new
retail, in a laptop/desktop, 1st or 2nd channel installation? Sorry for all
the questions but I need to form a mental picture of what is going on, on a
system I can't see...

See how to read ID string link:

This site shows the danger as relates to your drives firmware:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=92784
This site has a liveupdate module that you download to check your firmware
and to offer updates if available for your specific drive:
http://www.samsungoms-europe.com/samsung.php?section=download

The drive you have seems to be problematic to say the least..
You may need to upgrade the drive for a newer one, if all else fails?

Have you tried to uninstall in device manager the drive and then let XP
search for new hardware changes or uninstall and reboot for same affect?

Also in device manager look under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers or equivalent
for your system and see primary & secondary channels and were you know your
drive is right click, properties, advanced tab and see if set to "DMA if
available" you can experiment here if needed. Under driver details what are
the file names shown?
I have two atapi.sys and storprop.dll signed by MWP..

Also, InCd should have it's own tab in my computer, drive, properties with a
format and erase button, can you format a DVD+/-RW here? What is the stated
speed of the media your using 4x,6x and is it within the drives burn speed
capabilities?

Try this uninstall the drive in device manager, uninstall all Nero software
and shutdown the machine cold. Reboot and let windows find the drive and set
it up, then reinstall Nero software and reboot..Any change?

I have tried all of the suggestions and it seems that my drive is corrupt,
XP only recognises it as a CD-Rom and not a combi.
I have tried the Firmware and still there is no change i have now ordered a
NEW NEC combi drive, when it arrives i will start from scratch by going for a
complete XP reinstall.

Thank you for your help

All I can say is that it wasn't compatible on the pc I was working on! The
owner could not access either the CD or DVD drive unless the CD was in when
the machine was turned on initially. I spent hours trying all the usual
things and then got a tip from someone in a newsgroup asking if I had Nero
on the machine. After removing it everything worked fine and continues to
do so. So I don't care what the website claims - it was not compatible on
that machine!

Well, Nero [5.5.10.56 bundeled (updated)] works as well as [InCD
4.3.14.1(updated)] on my drive (self-installed HI-VAL), only after I did a
firmware update for the drive, though. Did you just remove InCD (what ver#?)
or the complete Nero package (what ver#?) was Nero bundled with the recorder
or was it the retail ver? I assume you are saying the drives were CD-RW and
DVD-ROM..And that the customer had no need for using CD-/+RW disks or any
third party burning software, what so ever?
Perhaps, it (Nero/InCD ver?) was not compatible with the drives firmware
after XP SP2 was installed? Was it an OEM's drive?

Inquiring minds want to know...

If you don't have a SCSI device connected, the system aspi drivers are not
needed.
You may need to take a look at the update packages offered for Nero. Do you
use Nero's Incd too?

Look here for great info on your aspi drivers

Hi,
I am running Nero Burning Rom 6.6.0.5 and i am missing the DVD writing option
in the New Compilation Box on start up.
I have run the Nero Tool kit and it informs me that i have no System Aspi
files installed.
. wnaspi32.dll
. aspi32.sys
. winaspi.dll
. wowpost.exe

Can some one tell me how i reinstall the above files from my system disk
( Windows XP Pro' ) with out having to reinstall windows?

Yours gratefully

Arioch

I accidentally started the 'remove' process of MS WINASPI program (on
Toshiba laptop, XP plus). I realised what I had done and had to crash out
before it continued to uninstall stage - no other way of exiting. I DO need
to install a CD R/W ext. drive (in order to burn disc to transfer data to
new laptop).
How do I restore the ASPI files - could I possibly download them from
somewhere? The ext CD drive is a Freecom classic series. The Tosh can only
read CDs.
(I was in the remove progs function because I needed to remove MS Works -
it won't read French OpenOffice docs).
This is my first try at newsgroups. I hope you don't mind my
piggybacking/gatecrashing into this discussion - it sounds like you are the
expert! Thanks a lot - Francesca

Francesca,
You may not even need them, unless you receive an specific stop/error
message..
What software do you use to burn the cd's? Have you installed the eternal
CD-RW drive, included setup software, burning software etc..?
A good read here..
