System Alert!

After a download my system became infected with a huge trojan virus. I ran
Spybot and AVG checks and the trojan appears to be gone now. However, the
download installed a programme on my computer. I uninstalled it and now does
not appear on the add/remove programmes list in the control panel, but I have
a "System Alert!" pop-up in my main desktop toolbar. Every 5-10 minutes it
pops up with the same warning.

Has anyone encountered this problem before, and if so how do I remove it?
Also, could it have an affect on my computer and is there a chance it still
has a nasty virus on it?

Any help would be much appreciated =)

What was the name of the Trojan please. Launch the AVG Test Center and
look in the Virus Vault.

Please also provide an exact copy of the System Alert message? Is it
being generated by AVG?

Hope this helps.

The message reads:
"System Alert! System has detected a number of active spyware applications
that may impact the performance of your computer. Click the icon the get rid
of unwanted spyware by downloading an up-to-date antispyware solution."

If you click on the icon it leads you to http://spydawn.com/?aff=334.
I have a feeling it is an advertising scam for the software.

The name of the trojan is Downloader.Zlob.boi
Its origin was C:/Program Files/Video ActiveX Object/pmmnt.exe

Hope that is the information you need?
Thanks,
Dan.

Getting rid of spyware can be difficult. Did you...

Turn off System Restore for all drives?
Restart in Safe Mode (as Administrator)?
Do your spyware and virus scans in Safe Mode?

Entering "remove" and "spydawn" on Google yields the following as the
first result:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic81275.html
"How to remove SpyDawn (Removal Instructions)"

You can choose either Automated or Manual Removal.
