Synctoy bugs

I have installed the beta version and now have version 1.
I have three computers I trying to sync. All are running XP with SP2, two
are XP Home one is XP Pro (MCE).
Either between two different disk drives on the same computer, or between
computers.

If I run Synctoy via Scheduler, I get the following error message in the
Scheduler Log:

"Backup Gary's Outlook.job" (SyncToy.exe -ROutlookBU) 9/21/2005 2:40:57 PM
** ERROR **
Unable to start task.
The specific error is:
0x80070005: Access is denied.
Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application.

Even though I have browsed to the application.
I've tried running it via a bat file, but I had to copy the program files from
C:\Program Files\Microsoft\SyncToy to C:\SyncToy since the command line
interface cannot find the directory.
If you go to a cmd window and dir c:\progra~1\micros~1 the subdirectory
synctoy doesnt' show up.
Only a subdir called version3.0 which has a subdir of bin, all of which is
empty.
It runs this way but I'm getting various program exections occasionally, not
always and not always the same.
I've gotten the following processID/threadID errors:
0xe54/0x78
0xf08/0x784
0x570/0xddc

Many times during computer to computer sync's I get error messages telling
me the drive doesn't exist.
I'm not using UNC path names in synctoy, just the connected network drive
letter.
Although I execute a dir prior to synctoy in the bat file using both a
\\server\drive and c:\.
Anyone got any ideas?

Hi Panama,

I have a couple of thoughts for you:

1. See if you get any of the access denied errors while running SyncToy
interactively. If not, then perhaps the scheduled jobs are running under a
different user?

2. In the command window, batch files, and task entries, put quotes around
path names. For example, try:

dir "c:\program files\microsoft\synctoy\*.*"

from the command window.

I hope this helps...

George,
Interactively, I don't get the access denied error. On the Scheduler, I set
my User and Password for the SyncToy job. So I'm not sure what's up. As far
as the cmd, I do put quotes, but the problem is the directory structure is
different in Explorer versus the cmd window as I stated below. Which baffles
me. How can the two environments be different. I can send you the outputs of
each if you like. Any ideas on the exception errors?
Thanks,
Gary
