synchronizing fonts between two machines

My desktop is loaded with fonts I've collected over the years. My new
laptop has a much smaller collection.

I need - NEED - to install all missing fonts on my laptop.

What happens if I copy all of my desktop fonts to a medium that is
accessible via the laptop, and I then choose to install all of those
fonts on my laptop using the Windows "Install New Font" utility?

1) will all of the fonts be installed, resulting in multiple copies of
those fonts that were common to the two of them?

2) will only those fonts be installed on the laptop that don't exist
on it?

I just got a new machine and I copied fonts from my old machine to a
removable drive and dragged them into the Fonts folder on the new machine.
I dragged them 20 or so at a time.

"You can also drag OpenType, TrueType, Type 1, and raster fonts from another
location to add them to the Fonts folder. This works only if the font is not
already in the Fonts folder."

If you try to drag one in that's already there, you get something like
this...

---------------------------
Windows Fonts Folder
---------------------------
The AcadEref (TrueType) font is already installed.

To install a new version, first remove the old version.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Then you know you already have that one and you can click OK and drag the
next batch in.

There were a few that I could not drag and had to actually install.

Start | Run | Type: fonts | Click OK |
On the File menu, click Install New Font.
In Drives, click the drive you want.
In Folders, double-click the folder that contains the fonts you want to add.
In List of fonts, click the font you want to add and then click OK.
To add all of the listed fonts, click Select All and then click OK.

You must have been hovering here like a vulture. LOL

There may be easier ways, but that's how I did it. I probably added 30
fonts that I never even used on my old machine. Oh well, the new hard drive
is 25 times larger, lots of room for junk.

I became an Internet "vulture"/junkie back in '93.

I live on the Internet when I'm not working.

Thanks again for your input.
