Synchronize Gal to Contacts

B

Bill Sherman

I used to use Personal Address Books to store all my contact information I
want to have close by. I then used a tool called PABGALsync to automatically
lookup evey entry in the Personal addres Book and get the most current
information from The GAL, and update the personal address book with it. I
was able to do this even with Outlook 2003 (forcing it to use Personal
address Book instead of contacts).

Now I am using Outlook 2007, and it does NOT support Persoanl Address Books
at all. I transferred my Persoanl Address Book to Outlook contacts, but I
cannot find out how to duplicate the functionality to keep my contacts up to
date.

There are about 100 entries in the contacts that I want ready access to, and
the GAL contains over 100,00 entries, so relying on searching the GAL each
time I want contact information is not good. People in our company change
positions or locations freqeuntly, and while the email address stays the
same, their contact info keeps changing. This is why I want some way to for
every entry in my Outlook contacts, go to the GAL, and get the current info
stored there, and update the contacts with it. That way my contacts folder is
always up to date.

Using the Contacts, I can limit it to only the 100 numbers I want to keep up
with.
Using the GAL, where there are over 100,000 entries some with same names, it
gets awkward, and takes more time.

Also, using the contacts, I can sync with my pda / phone to carry those
numbers, not the 100,000 + of the GAL.

Why not just open their contact from the GAL to get the current information?

Hi Bill,

I am having almost the same scenario as you but I use Outlook Contacts
instead of PABs. The tool PABGALSync seems to do this but I cannot find it
anywhere?
Where did you get it?

Anyone else have any idea on how to programatically update the contacts
within a contact folder with information from a Global Address List?

Regards
Rikard
