Existing Contacts not updating when GAL updates

Outlook 2003
previously existing contacts field information doesn't change as that
contacts GAL information changes.. example. Client's job title or phone
number changes in the GAL but doesn't update in the client's contact record
in the contacts folder. synchronization seems fine for GAL and for the
contacts folder per the synchronization tab in the properties for Contacts.
Only way to update contact information is to manually attempt add from GAL
"add to contacts" then dialog comes up to update existing information.

if contacts properties shows sync date/time matching recent Send/Receives
from Exchange server then I would think that the contact information would
update..?

They are 2 separate lists of data. The GAL and Contacts are not related.
There is no updating going on automatically.

after I posted I thought I realized of course I'm just syncing server to
local contacts.. I can't believe that update of contacts doesn't exist
already with so many business users having dozens to hundreds of contacts
just in their company gals and they don't have time to check for changes..
anyway thanks for responding..

If the contact is in the GAL, it doesn't need to be in the Contacts.
Updating the GAL updates it for everyone.
