sync with smartphone

On my laptop I have Outlook 2003 with BCM update, POP3 server.
I am looking to get a smartphone that will sync with my outlook business
contact manager. I have used BCM since the very beginning, love it, rely on
it. I have not bought the phone yet. With the phone need int'l capabilities
and the ability to sync BCM.

I am considering Moto Q Global with ATT smartphone, windows mobile 6. Will
this sync to the system I have on my laptop or do I need a different phone or
system? I would consider changing my laptop operating system if need be, but
don't want to mess up the bcm that is working fine. I am NOT on an exchange
server. There is a ton of confusing info out there, the phone folks are
clueless and don' t know bcm. Please help. Thanks. (if this is the wrong
discussion group, please let me know. Thx.

Check out Pocket Mirror from www.chapura.com. They were the only program
that synched BCM 2003 data that I knew of. They can tell you which devices
they work with.

Hello susclay

There is also BCM for Pocket PC from Microsoft
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...-84A9-BD628DB7B6A0&mg_id=10118&displaylang=en)
and a different version for a Smartphone.

I have both installed and am having problems with VERY slow synching and
lots of duplicates. Am in the process of reinstalling one at a time. The
Microsoft version syncs Business Contacts as a database on the phone seperate
from the pocket outlook database and so it does not completely integrate with
the phone - no caller ID

susclay,

Think of MS as a giant hand with various sized fingers. Each finger
represents a division or dept., etc. The BCM user base is barely large
enough to rank even finger nail status. Accordingly, there has been little
incentive for the Redmond Bureaucracy to give a d___ about a workable
interface between BCM and the Windows Mobile division for the last 5 years.
Native Outlook has ruled the roost for 10 years and that is not to be messed
with. There was a BCM sync conduit cobbled together and proudly released
last year but this appears to have been cluelessly designed by a committee in
a vacuum and is very lame in its lack of full features for a smart phones
current capabilities. (Dial look up, Caller ID, etc). This would have been
acceptable about 10 years ago in the early days of PDAs but it is a real joke
of an application in its current release.

Chapura or Intellisync are your only real hopes for a viable solution that
you can live with. I would recommend looking closely at Chapura's "Folder
Mirror" application because all of the syncing is handled more simply at the
client level on your PC and then just utilizes the standard WM sync conduits
into and out of your native Outlook app.

Best wishes,

-THP
