Symbol shows up one way in Preview and another way Published

I have a cent sign, as in 12 cents, in the text of my web page.
It looks fine in "preview in browser" mode, but once I published the page
with that text, instead of 12 (cent sign), it shows 12?. It shows a question
mark instead of the Cent sign. What is th remedy for this?
Just FYI, I placed the Cent symbol in the text from the FrontPage tool bar
Insert>Symbol.

Gah - my post didn't come through!

I posted the entity code for the cent sign - that would be ampersandcent;
(replace the word ampersand with the symbol for one. That will work
reliably.
