Symantec "Internet Worm Protection"

I realize that the prevailing mood here is to bash Symantec, but aside
from that urge, does anyone know if the "Internet Worm Protection" in
NAV 2005 is at all effective as a firewall? It shuts off Windows
Firewall by default. From Symantec's description, the IWP seems at
least better than the one-way Windows XP Firewall, because it allegedly
checks both incoming and outgoing traffic ... but what's it really do?

Hi,

It does just what it purports to do - block both unwanted incoming nad
outgoing traffic, something that helps shut down the reproduction of worms.
It *should* disable the Windows firewall, as running two in concert often
causes other issues, you should only use one or the other. I'm no fan of
Symantec products, but in this they are correct, and while blocking outgoing
traffic has some merit, it is unnecessary if you keep garbage off your
system in the first place.
