Switching users hangs from one user only

Using XP pro
When I log off one particular user, everything seems fine. When I try to log
in as any other user, it starts to load preferences then hangs.

Two events are memorable: 1) Critical updates installed, and 2) Removed some
spy ware using run cmd, del *.* in some temp folders.

As this is from one user account only, I expect some setting is getting
adjusted and remaining when we try to log on as another user.

Any help, thoughts on where to start looking and a repair program to test
teh general health of teh computer.

Fully virus free. No new softeare installed for some time.
