Switchboard Problem

I have a database that had a switchboard that opened other forms that were
"switchboards" so to speak. I hated the default switchboard, did some
codiing that goofed up one of the command buttons, so I decdided to delete
the switchboard. Now I am getting all kinds of errors. I tried re-importing
the switchboard from backups, but I keep getting an error "error accessing
file, network connection may have been lost".

The backup file works fine in "my documents" but as soon as I try to put it
on my Q drive (the customer is mapping everything to q: so I am trying to
recreate their environment so I don't have to keep changing paths in code)
when I click on command buttons on various forms, I get that error message.
Any ideas what is going on?

Hi, Donna.

Are you running Access 2K with some application from Office XP also loaded
on the same computer? Have you not installed Office 2K SP-3? Did you
import or copy the switchboard's form from the backup database and then fail
to compile the code in the application before this happened?

If so, there's bad news. Please see this Knowledge Base article concerning
this nasty bug:

If I download these office updates, what will it do to my Office 2003
products? (I only have Access 2000 runninig on the machine because a customer
needed that verrsion). Does the update know to go to the Access2000
directory (when I got my new computer, I installed Access 2000 in its own
directory & then installed Office 2003 in its defaulted directory, per
instructions)

Hi, Donna.

I suggest that you back up your computer just in case the updates have
adverse affects on your existing configuration.

Microsoft doesn't recommend installing multiple versions of Office on the
same computer, due to incompatibility problems. However, since following
that advice isn't always practical, Microsoft has provided some KB articles
for assistance:

Yes. The update relies on your computer's Windows Registry entries, which
were made during the installation of Microsoft Office. As long as you
haven't moved those files, your updates _should_ go smoothly.

We have multiple versions of Microsoft Office installed on our computers,
too, but none of the computers have Microsoft Office 2K and a later version
installed on the same partition, so we've avoided this scenario. (We
learned our lesson with the headaches involved with making Microsoft Office
97 and Microsoft Office 2K coexist successfully.)

I suggest that you search the Google Groups archives for past posts
regarding this topic to find others' advice. If you can't find a suitable
answer, then post a question asking what others have done to make the two
versions of Access (2K and 2003) coexist successfully on their computers,
including what these folks did for updates. (I suspect that they installed,
then updated 2K, then installed, then updated 2003.)

Good luck.
