dave

doing a clean install on my laptop ( sony vaio )......
it has a new hard drive and I want to put xp on...
I have booted from a win 98 boot disc, and gotten as far as the blue win xp
setup screen , but it says " an internal error has occured. Could not find a
place for a swap file"

can some one tell me how to proceed from there?
thanks
D

Why can't you bootup to your Windows XP CD? If you do that you will be good
to go, shouldn't have any problems and load.

when I set to boot from CD... I get a screen saying OS not found.... that is
why I tried to boot from a win 98 boot disc

Your Sony VAIO notebook probably uses a restore CD and is not bootable
in the same way a retail MS copy is. Check the manual that came with
the Sony to learn how to re-install the OS. Do you have a retail MS
copy of XP? You may have to contact Sony support for assistance in
installing the OS to your new hard drive.
