I installed an update to windows 2000 and now when I get
on the internet through a dialup, right after I connect I
get a error message that svchost will shut down. Could
anybody give me some suggestions on how to fix my problem
without reinstalling.

You have a virus. Do you have a firewall?

yes I agree with the other reply, you have a virus, its a
clone of the Welch mblast that went around earlier this
year. Its better to download a virus scanner like Avast!
from www.tucows.com. Disconnect from the net before
installing it, it will clear it then re-connect and get it
updated automatically. It has something to do with a 24\7
or broadband connection and the main culprit internet
supplier has 3 letters in its name .Cant mention who for
obvious reasons!!...~smiles~. Also put on a good firewall
such as Armor2net from the same site and a descent
programme that kills trojans and worms which cant always
be detedted with a virus scanner
