Hi!

I have a problem with my windows xp sp-2 Prof system. I am getting an error
either while working or not working then my local area network connection
does not work normally and my computer hangs. I have done everything after
searching on the internet to fix this problem but nothing worked.

The error is :

svchost.exe - Application Error

The instruction at "0x6f8916e2" referenced memory at "0x019d005c". The
memory could not be "written".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program.

I have scanned my system with Malware Bytes and other antiviruses and also
worked on windows update as per some information available on the internet
but same problem.

Thanks!

Hi,
This can be diue to one of many reasons:

2- RootKit/Viral malware installed.
3- Memory (due to a bad apps/progs written)
4- A Corrupt Winsock that causing the issue and you can repair the winsock
by either download the winsock or run the commands:

Reboot your machine.

I'm running AVG on my family's computer, and it came up with an infected
svchost.exe file. Nass, you mentioned hijackthis if it is infected. I may
or may not do that for you. However, what I would really like to know is: Is
there simply a way I can repair it manually? AVG can't repair it. When I
had an infected Firefox file, I opened it up with notepad, typed a bunch of
random crap to try to corrupt it, saved it, renamed it, and then finally it
gave me "permission" to delete it manually. Now, I see that svchost.exe is
an important file, so I'm not going to do that.

I'm running Windows XP (32) Home Edition SP2.

I'm really tempted to try replacing the file with one I know is good, but I
know there are lots of pitfalls I could fall into trying to do that...

You are seeing the affects of a hijackware infection.

1. See if you can download/run the MSRT manually:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

NB: Run the FULL scan, not the QUICK scan!

2. WinXP ONLY!! => Run the Windows Live Safety Center's 'Protection' scan
(only!) in Safe Mode with Networking, if need be:
http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/center/howsafe.htm

3. Run a /thorough/ check for hijackware, including posting the requested
logs in an appropriate forum, not here.

If the procedures look too complex - and there is no shame in admitting this
isn't your cup of tea - take the machine to a local, reputable and
independent (i.e., not BigBoxStoreUSA) computer repair shop.
