SVCHOST application problem

I am running Windows 2000 Pro. Usually runs OK but lately
an application named svchost.exe is running at 100% of
available processor space. If anyone has any ideas how to
stop this I would appreciate some advice. When this
happens the computer is really slow and annoying.
 
Have you run the blaster patch? I know when we had
problem with the svchost that's when the blaster virus was
going around.
