Svchost using up all my cpu

I am running windows XP Pro in spanish and I noticed lately that when I start
up my PC, it's very slow. In task manager I found out that Svchost is using
98 to 100% of my PC and this for over 15 minutes. It stops and very quickly
it starts again using the CPU. What should I do?

To find and display what could be the problem try Process Explorer:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/SystemInformation/ProcessExplorer.mspx

Once you have Process Explorer installed and running:
In the taskbar select View and check 'Show Process Tree' and 'Show Lower
Pane' options.
Then expand the process named 'Explorer' (click on the + sign)
In the column on the left named 'CPU', look for any high CPU usage.
Next click on the CPU column to sort the processes by %CPU usage (Highest to
Lowest).
Move the mouse cursor over any process, you should see a popup with some
detailed info.
Then mouse over the process that's using most or all the CPU %.
Then click on that process to highlight it,
Now that it's highlighted, right click and from the options listed select:
Search Online
This should display what out there on the web about that process.
You can also double click on any process to open up a more detailed
'Properties' window.
Note: some entries like Explorer, System/Services, and Svchost
entries may need to be expanded to show the detail (sub processes),
in your case click on the + located to the left of the Svchost entry.

An alternate method using Process Explorer is to double click on the Graph
just below the Menu bar.
This will open the 'System Information' window, which has a larger display
of all three graphs.
Move your mouse over any spike in the CPU Usage graph to see what
process/application or service was the cause of the spike.

The first thing to do would be to find out which services are running
inside the svchost in question. You can run this command at the Command
Prompt:

tasklist /svc

and take a look at the svchost with the PID that is using the CPU
cycles, or you can use SysInternals' Process Explorer:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx to obtain
the information on the services being run by the svchost instance. Once
you know what is running inside the svchost you can narrow things down a
bit and do more searching on the processes that are running.

You sick f$ck, I did that to prove a point. You lied when you told everyone
you would stop stalking me if I took your name out of my sig and email. I
did that against my better judgment after initially refusing to do so even
after all the emails I got telling me to try it and see. As a favor to
Microsoft, because your sick a$$ was disrupting their groups, I changed it.
They also told me that if I change it and you continue to stalk me they will
ban you. Your sorry a$$ name is nowhere in my sig or email address now leave
me the f$ck alone you sick bastard.

Hi John,
Thanks for your answer. I tried tasklist /svc and I saw that svchost.exe is
using 1384 in PID. I tried to find out what were in that svchost and found
LmHosts, RemoteRegistry, SSD PSRV, Webclients.
Then I downloaded the Process Explorer and I find that in svchost,
wuauclt.exe is using the highest PID 4026. What do you recommend me to do,
because my PC is still slow.
Thanks John.

Malke is a joke and her status as an MVP will not last long. MS does not
allow the disrupting of their NG and trolling especially by MVP's.

Do they allow trolling from phony MVPs?

Interesting stuff - Ms Malke is listed in the MVP Directory - two "Lauras"
are listed - one (CISSP, MCSE+I, MCT, MCDBA, MCP, MCP+I, CCNA, A+, Network+,
iNet+, CNE-4, CNE-5) - doubt if that is "Laura MS MVP" - the other may or
may not be - not enough info.

You continually claim to be an MVP. Despite the number of times you've
been challenged to demonstrate it, you refuse to provide a shred of
evidence or support for that claim.

Why are you surprised that nobody believes you?

You have it wrong. I am not surprised nobody believe me, I am surprised at
how many people believe what trolls say without any proof. People believe
there's porn on my website and in the links I post without even checking.
Nobody challenges the effectiveness of the tools I point users to on my site
not even the so called expert MVP's. They would rather spend months and
doing thousands of searches trying to find my stuff elsewhere when they
can't when all their searches point right back to me. The smart ones who
really aren't sure give a general warning. Those trolls MVP's have been
threatening me for over a year, well just how does it take for something to
happen? They know the truth and just can't handle it. They are not a big
enough person to admit when they are wrong. If I'm wrong and doing something
wrong it really is not hard to do something about it. But when I'm right
nothing can be done. Nothing has been done because I am right.
