Windows Update svchost SP3 problem

M

mtstream

We've been experiencing svchost taking 100% of processor utilization during
windows update scans. This problem has continued after the implementation of
SP3 and ensuring the current WSUS client.

This problem existed before SP3 but has not resolved since deploying. Since
the problem appeared we've also done the following:

Recently switched from AVG to Microsoft Forefront client security (manual
uninstalls of AVG).

Implemented Microsoft System Center Essentials. Upgraded WSUS 3.0 Beta to
full version.

All workstations recieve their updates via WSUS and are set to scan for
updates on a 3hr interval. Every 3hrs svchost takes processor utilization to
100% - the same thing happens if we go to Windows update website and tell it
to scan for updates.

I've run out of patches and service packs to apply - any additional ideas?

See if installing Windows Installer 4.5 fixes it for you.
