Suse Lionux overwrites XP boot sector

Want my honest opinion on this. If its possible reinstall windows on the 1st
drive just as your normally would. Then when you are finished with that
install. Install SuSe on the hdb drive when installing SuSe. It will ask
what boot loader you want to use and where you want to put it. Use the Grub
bootloader (I find it easier to use). Then make sure you have it so that it
can boot to windows. Have the boot loader installed on the HDA HDA HDA drive
or this won't work at all. Once that is installed it should give you the
GRUB bootloader menu when your computer boots up. And give choices of
Windows or Linux.
At least thats what mine has always done and I've used about 20 different
distributions doing it and never had a problem.

The key is to install Windows 1st and Linux 2nd.

XP will not install unless I repartition the disk, which I assume means
it will wipe out 40GB of progs and data that will probably take me days
or weeks to reinstall.

Some of us here are Linux users and since it involves restoring an XP
MBR this is an appropiate newsgroup to ask in.

What Steve said. Besides, I'm not convinced this is a "Linux mess". I
think it's an "end user mess". I would back up the data using Knoppix
or SuSE (if the OP can still get into SuSE) first. Then I'd do a Repair
Install of Windows. If that works and the OP can boot into Windows,
then would be the time to install SuSE, putting Grub onto the mbr. I
would also suggest to the OP that he do some reading about how to use
Linux and how to use XP for future computing happiness.

The situation now:
I have XP working on the XP disc
I have Linux working on the Linux disc
However, neither will work when both discs are connected.
Ideas?

What Malke said (thanks lady).

You've got two disks and two MBRs respecitively, one for XP and one for
Linux. They don't get along that way. They never will. You've got it so
screwed up the computer doesn't know what to do.

To effectively (and simply) dual boot XP and Linux you need to install
XP first, then install Linux and let GrUB be the boot manager (there
_are_ other ways to do it but much more complexity involved, which you
obviously don't need right now). Either clean installs of both (in that
order) or repair installs of both (in that order). It's really that
simple. Back-tracking this way is just going to get you more and more
confused. Back up your stuff and start over. I'd go for clean installs
of both OSes myself. That way you're most assured it to be right in the end.

First off, XP will not do a clean install without wiping the partitions and me
losing 40GB.
So that leaves Linux.
Now, how do I do that when the two disks won't work in each other's presence?

You've been told how to do this more than once. You're not listening. I
can't imagine how you think you're going to be able to use Linux
successfully.

Back up your fscking data on XP by booting with Knoppix or a Bart's PE
or by slaving the drive in a working XP box. Then do a format/clean
install. Install XP. Then install SuSE.

If you can't figure out how to do the above, take the machine to a
professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA). After they stop laughing, they will set your machine up
any way you want. Then you can mess it up again.

How about by ****ing clicking on the ****ing program I'm installing it for?

Listen - I only want the ****ing Linux to execute one ****ing program once.
I've never used it before and I'm not going go to that trouble and risk if
there's an easier way - if there is I need it *spelled out*. Got it?

Thanks for your ****ing help and goodbye.
