SUS client

I am trying to install and configure a local 'Software
Update Server' to deploy updates to our clients. The
server is installed fine and sucessfully downloaded the
security patches, however I have a problem when trying to
install the client update (WUAU22.msi).

When trying to install this application on a XP SP1 PC, I
receive the message "Microsoft Windows Update Auto Update
requires Windows 2000 SP2 or Windows XP".

I have checked the version of Wuaueng.dll suggested in the
white paper on SUS and it is 5.4.3630.1106, in the paper
it suggests that this update is not required if at XP SP1,
but then goes on to say the dll should be 5.4.3630.2550.

Any help would be appreciated

Mat

Hi Mat!

The Windows Update Client is included in XP_SP1 and
W2K_SP3. Isn't life funny ;)
You'll find BITS and WAU sevices running on your
workstation.

This error msg is intended for W2K_SP1 (or SP0).

Cheers & Peace

many thanks for your reply, I have seen one client update
after manually placing the local server address into the
registry.

Would you know if you can modify the windows update icon
on the start menu to point to the local server, rather
than Microsoft ??? if this is not possible, I might as
well remove it from the clients!

Many thanks

Mat.

You can't.

Why? You can configure the SUS client to download and install the updates by
itself, regardless of what the WU icon is pointing to.

Fyi, there is a separate newsgroup for SUS:

microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

URL to the group softwareupdatesvcs for those who uses the not so good Web
interface to access the newsgroups:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsser...t.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs

A Web site about SUS with a FAQ and a SUS forum:
