superior password

I'm writing on behalf of a friend who is having such
problems that he can't ask himself.

Whenever he tries to go to ANY website, he gets the
following pop-up box:

=================================
sorry content advisor will not allow you to see this
site. this page may contain some of the following:

this page does not have a rating

If you want to see this site, someone must type in the
superior password. Always allow website to be
viewed. Hint: Pet. Password: ______
=============================

The pages he's trying to go to are not adult content. He
can't get to anything as simple as www.yahoo.com or
www.ebay.com. Any ideas?

He has tried putting in his pet's name but that doesn't
work and since he never tried to set up such a password,
that was no surprise.

If you are using Internet Explorer:
Tools | Internet Options | Security Tab | Custom Level
The error is due to the security settings in IE.

Hi Colin! When you say there is a way to bypass the
password if it was forgotten (or in this case possibly
never purposely set), are you referring to the part of the
article that says "For information about how to contact a
Microsoft Support Professional"?

If so, I can recommend that to him. If not, i'm not sure
what you are suggesting in that article that he do. The
password hint is of no help. He tried his dog's name, but
it's not taking it.

Hi Wojo! he's typing the website into the search engine
built into AOL or Earthlink and it appears to be trying to
open IE for reasons he cannot explain.

I can get to the options you describe, but what are you
saying is set wrong there? there are a lot of radio
buttons there.

Well there are many possible problems there. It may be easier, since he's
aparently not wanting to use IE anyway, to ignore the radio buttons and use
the drop menu at the bottom of the window (Reset Custom Settings) and reset
to LOW.
At least if this works you know what the problem is then can work towards
resolving it.

Perhaps your friend should ask his parents?

lol
I don't think any of us even thought of that. I certainly wouldn't want to
help a child get to a porn site!

Its opening IE because IE is the default web browser for AOL.

Actually sounds like someone is trying to get around mommy and daddys
parental controls.

Yeah Bruce made that comment too. That thought didn't even register in my
brain in the early morning. Plus I didn't realize AOL didn't have their own
browser. Never have and never will pay the extra $$ for AOL. I could create
a webpage that would work like their interface if that's what I wanted or
needed. Which I don't :)
