Hi,

I think it would be a good idea to receive feedback about posts. For
example, if you post a computer question or request for help with a
particular problem, and others post solutions to those problems or
questions, the one who posted could reply that it did or did not work. I am
by far not a computer whiz, but try to give input when I can and often I
search the internet for answers pertaining to questions that others post -
partly out of my own curiosity, but mostly because of a desire to help. A
lot of post never contain any replies saying "this worked" or "this didn't
work", so you never know. I know a lot of us probably get the solutions we
need and then we're done, but try to take time to let others know when
something works so others benefit. (Hope I made one bit of sense!) :)

Karl

PS...Thanks for all the great posts!

One thing you can do to help disseminate information is refrain from
multi-posting--posting the same message separately in more than one
group, as you've done here. You had a few responses in the General group
that don't appear here because you multi-posted instead of
cross-posting, which is sending the same message to different groups
simultaneously. In order to do this, you'll need to use a newsreader
such as Outlook Express or Thunderbird, rather than the clunky web-based
reader.

I fully agree. A simple "Thanks, it solved the problem" is enough to
let both the person who provided the solution plus thousands of others who
browse these sites know results.

It's the main reason I don't try to help more. It's seems like you are just
wasting your time. People, being how they are though, I wouldn't expect it
to change.

My apologizies for multiposting. I actually attempted to crosspost, but I
had copied the second newsgroups name and pasted it into the CC line
accidentally (in a hurry). When I sent the post it sent out the first one
and not the second, so I sent it seperately to the other newsgroup. I
haven't been a part of newsgroups for quite a while and didn't realize the
effect of multiposting, but do now having just read up on it. I will
remember to crosspost in the future and if anyone is interested, here is a
good website about posting to newsgroups:

Thanks

post -

No need to apologize. Your original point was well taken. There are some
self-appointed net cops who'll flame you for crossposting too. Don't
worry about it. If crossposting makes good sense and isn't taken to
extremes, it can increase the chances of getting help and doesn't hurt
anything.

I do just as you say, but the posters you are trying to reach never read the
1st page of post, let alone getting down to your post. They have a problem,
log in and state their problem, even though it was discussed 2 hours ago, a
day ago or 50 times in the past week! Then they see an answer and are gone
until they have the next problem.
