file into the console window?

How about trying what I showed you. This "type" is a VERY old DOS command. Long before Notepad appeared on the sceme.

Oops. My mistake. My eyes glaze over whenever I see multi-level
instructions requiring the use of the magic Start button to do
something, let alone something as basic as opening a console window --
it seems I interpreted the "type" to mean "type." Ha ha ha. Ok, so
maybe not that funny. <g>

I just installed Cygwin so life is back to normal.
