John, your question shows that you are *not* a MS MVP! But thanks for your
interest. It means Microsoft Most Valued Person. How one comes by it, I do
not know.

<<<G>>>> back at you, Phillo. Pardon if I have offended you, but I did not
want idiot replies.

? ? ? ?

And he can't be an MVP under the current rules, just like other
Microsoft employees can not.
It is one or the other, not both.
When an MVP becomes a Microsoft employee, they are no longer an MVP.

Still no answer.

Would a MS MVP - and a MS MVP only - recommend an Anti virus Program. There
are so many from which to choose Many thanks.

Thanks for your reply. If you read other replies to my post you will see that
Ness in the post B4 you suggested Avast! So there are two MVP's for Avast! My
reason for asking replies from MVP's only was because there are some (?)
idiots whose advice is about as good as (as my dear Father would say) "a
prostitute at a wedding." <G>

Instead of pressing "Reply" you should send your question as a "New" post.
Good luck with "Windows Live One Care", but this is the first I have heard of
it. As I say, try making a "New" post.

I see you have some excellent replies but I'll throw in my 2 cents. I
use AVG with Comodo firewall and Spybot and A-Squared with malware
removal.

Any security software will work if u have good surfing and computer
maintainence habits.Pay security suites will definitely have some edge
when comes to infection detection than free ones.Free software products
dont come with real time and on access protection.Pay products scans you
computer in realtime and also offers on access protection.I use mccafee
enterprise version ,is really good in detecting virus infections.

McAfee sucks. Avast is free and has real time protection, auto updates
and will do a boot scan for viruses.

Stop spreading lies, will ya?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is MS MVP?

The MVP program is explained here:

I used to use McAfee, because I got it free from my employer
(legally!). I recently got a new laptop running Vista, and for some
reason the McAfee I brought home from the office wouldn't install on
it (no error message, it just ran through the install procedure and
didn't appear).

So I'm using NOD32 on that machine. Very nice, and I *really* like how
it updates itself almost every day.

That's certainly true. Nevertheless, if you want to use newsgroups
like this one effectively, the way to do it is to hang around for a
while, and learn from experience whose opinions can be trusted,
regardless of what titles they have. Titles don't guarantee good
information, and the lack of a title doesn't mean the responder is an
idiot.

How do you determine if the reply is 'idiot'? If a MVP suggested Norton
what would you classify it as?

Ooops! Are you an MVP?

What's Up!!!!.
It depend on how much Disk space you have and what your Surfing habits
are?.
You will get lots of opinions from MVPs or Non-MVPs each will recommend a
Program, so how that will help you!!!. ONLY get you to a confusion!!!.
Best outside there to my Knowledge are:
Free
Avast
AVG
Avira
BIT Defender

Those are only AV not a complete Security suite, you will need a Firewall
with any of them to be secure from hacker and other malicious attacks,
like:
ZA
Comodo
Kerio

Commercial (in Alphabet order):

Avast
AVG
Bit Defender
CA
F-secure
Kaspersky
Mcafee
Norton
Panda
Sophos
Trend Micro
etc...

Again, all of these will not help if you don't practice safe Hex with
common
sense in dealing with security on your System.
HTH.

"Most Vile Poster"
Your answer is interesting considering the question.
You chose to insult others as your only contribution to the thread and
you suggest others are "Vile".
Pot, Kettle,Black

You need to read your own posts.

I rest my case, your honor. We were talking about MVPs, not me, but I'm
flattered that you took time out of your busy day to try and "straighten
me out".

So, MVP, when are you going to learn how to post on Usenet and stop top
posting, never?
