sufficient privileges - dial-up

Dave Piper

Hello All,

I've got an older computer (Windows 2000) that was part of our Windows
2000 domain at work. I needed it at one of our jobsites. I walked the
user through switching it to the jobsite workgroup (off the domain) over
the phone. We then needed to set up a dial-up internet connection on
this computer. His local username on the machine is part of the local
administrators group, however, the computer will not allow this local
user (or any other local user including the local administrator) to
set-up a dial-up internet account because of insufficient privileges.
What did I forget?

Dave,

There may be a local security policy on the machine which still has the
domain admins as the only people that are allowed to do this. I would go
into the local security policy, which can be found in administrative tools,
and import a basic template or make sure that there are no domain user
accounts defined for any of the settings. Also, check to see if you get
any relevant events in the event viewer. If this doesn't fix the problem -
what is the exact error that you get? Of course, you could always resort
to a format-reinstall.
