Dial-In on Windows 2000 Server

R

Rainer Budde

Hi,

I´ve a very big problem and I hope that anybody can help me. I´ve a Windows
2000 Server located in the USA. This Server is directly connected with an US
Robotics Modem for Remote Access via Dial-In. On the Server was "Routing and
Remote Access" activated and all works fine (I could dial-in into the
server). Now I´m so stupid and I deactivated accidentally "Routing and
Remote Access" and nothing works anymore.

On the Server there was only a Dial-In Connection installed. I´ve tried to
reinstall the Dial-In Connection with my customer like the following steps:

1. "Make new connection" clicked
2. "Accect incoming connections" choosed
3. Modem chossed (this was only the one modem in the selection list)
4. "Do not allow virtual private connections" was checked
5. A User with administration rights was choosen
6. Protocol TCP/IP
-> Properties -> "Allow callers to access my local network"
-> Properties -> "Specify IP address" -> IP Pool was specified

7. After these steps "Routing and Remote Access" has a green-up-arrow and
the service was started.

These settings are the same like the old dial-in settings, which are worked
for 2 hours.

If I try to dial-in the Modem doesnt answer. It doesn´t ring. Nothing
happens.

Does anybody know whats wrong? Did I forget something?

Hope for any help

Best regards

Rainer

If the modem is not even detecting a ring, the modem or phone cabling may be
faulty or you may have the wrong phone number.

Hi Richard,

the modem cabling and the telephone number is ok. The dial-in works until
yesterday (until i deactivated the remote access) since half a year.

Rainer

Same answer, sadly. If the modem is not acknowledging that the line is
ringing at all, then you have a coincidental problem. If the modem is
acknowledging the ring but not picking up then you have a configuration
issue.

Hi Richard,

I´ve setup a test enviroment with the same settings. In my test enviroment
the modem answers, but the connections couln´t be established successfully.
I don´t see the user authentification dialog. The dialin-modem answers but
the dial-out modem rings and rings. I think the dial-out modem couldn´t get
the information that the dial-in modem already answers. Does you or anybody
know whats wrong? Did I forget something?

Hi,

I´ve found the solution. If you deactivate the Routing and Remote Service
while you are connected you must configure the Routing and Remote Service
with Manual Settings. Then you must deactivate the Routing and Remote
Service. Next Step is to reboot your system. Then you configure a new
"Incoming Connection" and all works fine.

Hope this help to other people with the same problem.

Best Regards
