Suddenly can't send e-mail.

Like lots of other people last week I suddenly couldn't send mail using
Windows Mail and Vista Premium. Can delete unsent messages from Outbox ok
and have today downloaded and run Norton Uninstall. At about the time email
out stopped a Norton panel aaying I was about to load updates appeared which
I cancelled immediately, (I originally used Norton 4 months ago but
uninstalled and went to AVG), Norton appeared in Programs and would not
uninstall but a System Recovery to the day before removed it from program
list.

~Error message was Account POP. Server SMTP. Protocol SMTP. Server
response 554 5.7.1. Recipient address rejected. Access denied. Port 25.
Secure SSL: No. Server error 554, Error No 0x800CCC79

I can send webmail via Virgin.net but am connected by Pipex.
Very many thanks, I would much appreciate any ideas.

"SMTP" is not a valid server name...
If you are connected to Pipex, and trying to send via Virgin, then Virgin is
probably blocking your access to port 25. Most ISP's are now blocking
access to their email server from computers not connected to their network.

You might try using the Pipex SMTP server to send.
http://www.dial.pipex.com/support/faq/mail/oe5-6.shtml

Or check with Virgin to see if they have an authenticated SMTP server to
use.

It's an error if you're connected to your business' Excnage Server. If
you're connecting to a regular ISP it's probably a different problem but the
fix in the article is so easy to try it would be a shame not to. I just
today discovered that it fixes a problem I had with one of my mail accounts.
