cannot send emails

Karen McMenemy

I cannot send any emails - all mails just sit in my Outbox. this is the
error message I am receiving...

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject
'test', Account: 'pop3.ukonline.co.uk', Server: 'smtp.virgin.net', Protocol:
SMTP, Server Response: '554 5.7.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient
address rejected: Access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error:
554, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

Can you help at all please?

Does your connection to that server cross over from one internet provider's
equipment to another's before it reaches the server? If so, such
connections
to port 25 are often blocked to cause problems for spammers, and you need
to ask virgin.net if their outgoing mail server allows you to send outgoing
mail through some other port. Just trying all the ports is a very slow way
to
find out, since there are about 65,000 ports available and it's unlikely
that
more than a few of them will accept outgoing mail.

See if these help:

https://webmail.virgin.net/

It's also a possibility that that email address is no longer reachable,
for example due to that user being late paying their internet bill.

I'm not familiar with UK ISPs, so I don't know what the relationship
(if any) is between Ukonline and Virgin. The problem could be a matter
of trying to use an SMTP server that is on a different network than the
service providing your Internet connection.

If it's only mail to that address causing problems, click on Outbox,
and move all messages to that address to your Drafts folder until
you find out why that address is unreachable.

Then restart Windows Mail, and see if any other mail in your Outbox
goes out as usual.
