sudden restart

hey everyone, my computer restarts all of a sudden ( and very quick) when im
surfing the internet. i mean, not all the time, only when i start to download
sth, or when special popups come out, it is killing me. it is very extreme
when i start downloading sth, after one sec, all prgrams close and the system
restarts!

p.s. it is not a wireless card driver problem.

Right click on My Computer > Properties > Advances and choose "Settings" under "Setup and recovery" and uncheck "Automatically restart". Next time the system restarts see if you get a blue screen and there is some reference to any sys or dll. If so, post back here.

okay well, i tried this, nothing happens, no blue screen, and it restarts the
same way.

other symptoms:

this also happens

-when i start cmd.exe (command propmt)

-when i click on Start then Shutdown menu, i cannot even select any option,
it just restarts very quickly.

-when i start any download (IE and firefox)

another weird thing: i tried to boot into the XP cd and run recovery
console, it asks me to select the operating system, i select and type in the
password, and nothing happens! no recovery happens! it just stops again at
c:/WINDOWS

please help!

If you restart in Safe Mode, does it restart? About recovery console, what are you trying to do? A reinstall? The prompt c:/Windows> is waiting you type some command.

This happens to me too. I have done the following and it still happens:
switd\ch out my motherboard, eithernet card, keyboard, cable modem box,
reinstalled windows. over a three week period. I have also checked my memory
sticks and ran atleast 2 virus progams. the computer system log claim that
the user does a restart but it is a complete internal operation because I
don't restart the computer when it happens but the one thing that is common
to my shut downs is that I am surfing the net.
