Sudden Excel issue w/Windows Installer popup when I try to open a

Suddenly, after many years, if I try to open any Excel file, the Windows
Installer pops up and it will not open. I am using a company laptop and don't
have the Office CDs. I can open a file by opening Excel in safe mode, but
that is not a permanent solution and is time consuming. Can you help?

Sorry, I use Excel Professional 2003. If I copy a file to my flash drive and
open it on another computer, it works fine. The only way to open it on my
laptop now though is through the safe mode. I get the same Windows Installer
popup in safe mode but I can close out of it and work on Excel. Hope this
extra info helps to clarify my problem.
