Sudden Change in resolution from small to large

Upon booting up one morning, my screen resolution had completely reset itself
to the lowest possible, and the icons on my desktop are huge. I've changed
the resolution in Display Settings about 100 times, and upon booting up the
next day, it reverts back to the lowest setting. One thing I've noticed is
that in Settings, it seems to think I use two monitors, which I don't. Is
this normal? I have to choose Monitor 1, then move the resolution marker to
the high end, click Apply, then OK, and it is fine temporarily, but reverts
back the next day, and I have to do it all over again. Can anyone help?

Did you install the latest Microsoft ?security? patch.
After I foolishly did that my desk top and applications were completely
messed up and I whatever I do I can not get it back to what it was the
Spruce settings turned to a mucky pink or a dark gray.

Bring back Spruce. Bring back Spruce.Bring back Spruce.Bring back

I may have inadvertently installed the MS security patch... When I am
prompted to Install Updates before shutting down my laptop, I assume they are
positive updates and allow it. But if it was an Update that is prompted
within my Start Up contents, then I do not accept it, so that would not be
the issue. Does this make sense?

Mine definitely came from Micro$oft I have automatic updates enabled and
the machine automatically downloaded from M$ and I was prompted to install
via M$s little shield icon on the task bar. I delete anything received
via email.
