subweb permissions

hello,

I searched the forum, but could not find anything that addressed my problem.

I created a subweb and added the permissions. However it never prompts the
user in the web browser to type in the username and password.

I tried deleting it and trying again. I also removed and reinstalled the
frontpage extentions on the server. Still the same thing. There is a
service.pwd file with the correct usernames and hashed passwords in them.
There are no errors on the server or in frontpage or in the browser, just no
password protection.

Has anybody encountered this?

thanks

Post a URL to the subweb
- if you are logged in w/ FP when testing it you are already logged into the subweb

I'd rather not post a URL to the subweb.

Thanks for the idea, I already tried a completely different machine with the
same results. No login shows up and no errors on the server or on the client.
