subdomains

Are subwebs and subdomains the same thing?

I have set up a subdomain because I want to keep all of
the content separate from the rest of the web. The
address is
http://www.members.coloradorestaurantmenus.com

Is a subdomain the right way to go or should I do a
subweb? If I subweb, what will the address look like?
And how do I keep all of the subweb material in a
separate folder?

Thanks!

Sybwebs and Subdomains are 2 different things. A Subdomain is a domain. A
Subweb is a web site that sits underneath another web site. A web site can
be in a domain, but it is not the domain. It is simply an entity that can
reside in a domain.

Thank you, Thomas, for your reply.

Can I make a folder with the subweb named the pages I
want to group together? If so, how do I get new pages to
be in that folder? Is the folder name part of the page
name?

Thanks, Kevin, for taking the time to reply.

I understand the difference now. If I go the subdomain
route, how do I get all of the pages for that subdomain
in one folder? I don't want them interspersed with my
main domain pages.

Thanks,
Sport

I'm not sure you do understand the difference. A sub-domain can't exist in
the same location as the parent domain. Even if they are on the same machine
(usually they represent different machines/networks, but can be set up
otherwise), they are separate entities, and should not share any resources,
such as files and folders. In other words, you can set up a child web
underneath/inside the folder structure of the parent web, but you can't do
that with a domain.

Under FP, you would create subweb with all of the content (page, images,
navigation, etc.) then publish subweb to a location under your rootweb. Then
you host would point the subdomain to the subweb folder.

You would then maintain the content with FP via
http://www.yourdomainname.com/subwebname

You would view the site in a browse either via:
http://www.yourdomainname.com/subwebname
or
http://subdomain.yourdomainname.com

After reading the thread, I think this may have become
overcomplicated.

If you want to keep portions of your web separate,
you don't need subdomains or subwebs.

Simply create a new folder in your web and name it
subject1. Create an index page inside subject1
and then place all other pages and images relating to
subject1 in the folder.

Then the same for subject2, etc, etc.

When people are viewing the index page for
subject1, the address they will see is:
http://yourweb.com/subject1/

You can link To any subject folder to any other
subject folder.
