subdomain vs subfolder

What is the difference and do they function the same way? This is my
dilemna. I couldn't figure out how to create a subfolder onto my URL so I
created a subdomain. I am using FrontPage 2002 and my server is a linux. It
started when my website wouldn't show up after being published. My original
website URL is: http://www.cozyhomejewelrystore.com. With this address my
website wouldn't show up but as a blank. I went to my cpanel and created a
subdomain so now my website URL is:
http://page1htm.cozyhomejewelrystore.com/cozyhomejewelrystore.com/
Now my question is: With the URL showing the subdomain, will this address
direct customers to page 1.htm of my site?
