Styles - Numbering

I am trying to set up a legal document using multi-level numbering (article,
section, etc.). The numbering needs to be attached to Heading, 1, Heading 2,
etc. to create a TOC. However, the second level (i.e. section) needs to
appear on the same line as the following text. If I use hidden text to hide
the paragraph marker between Section and text, I lose my numbering. Not
having much luck with the style separator either. Any help would be
appreciated.

Sorry about that. I'm using Word 2007 in compatiblity mode. While
researching the problems with the document I noted earlier, I've been reading
"TOC Tips and Tricks" by S. Barnhill. I note that I don't see the "Outline
level" option when I launch the paragraph group nor do I see the "Show
Outling Toolbar" button in the TOC dialogue box. Is this due to running in
compatibility mode or are there changes I can make under the office button to
have these items available?

There won't be a "Show Outline Toolbar" button because there are no toolbars
in Word 2007. I do see "Outline level" in the Paragraph dialog, but it is on
the left rather than on the right as in previous versions, so perhaps you're
overlooking it?
