Style with first character larger than others

Hi. Is it possible to create a Word style where the first character is a
larger font than the others?
 
No.
But you can apply a drop cap or you could create a character style and
format the first character with that style.

No, a style in Word has a single font.

A semi-automatic approach will be needed here... For example, create a
character style and apply it to the first character of the relevant
paragraphs. You might even be able to use a macro to apply the character
style more easily.

Alternatively, if you are referring to a drop cap, use Insert | Drop Cap.
