stupid question

Iknew this once - but can not think of it to save my life... how do you make the desktop icon labels transpatent to the desktop image???

You are not stupid at all. The setting is in a very non-intuitive place:

Open the System applet in Control Panel, choose the Advanced tab, and
click Settings in the Performance section. Turn on the "Use drop
shadows for icon labels" on the desktop option, Apply and OK out.

Right click on desktop - choose properties - click the
Appearance Tab - Click Effects.

At Control Panel - System - Advanced - Performance click Settings - in
the panel have 'Use drop shadows for icon labels' checked
