I bought a new Pc in January, and installed Windows XP and used the same
registration key as my old computer, every thing has been fine until today,
when my computer has asked mye to activate windows.

I have gone into the activaiton screen and entered the registration key
exactly from the label on my old PC. However I get an error message saying
"According to our records, the number of times you can activate windows
withthis registration key has exceeded"????????? How I've been using it for
years. Can anyone help?

I have no intention of paying microsoft for another copy of XP, when I have
already done so.

I have only 3 days left before windows stops...........help.........

MS allows only one installation of XP per PC. You'll need to purchase another
copy of XP to install. Didn't your new PC came with an OS (Operating System)?
Or, you can contact MS for additonal installations on multiple PCs but
you'll be
charged for that.

yup sorry its the way it works on the window side. You can order XP home
cheaper these days or even just the cd only from online..google it.

That is to prevent you from "thieving" the operating system - which you are
trying to do.

You will get little sympathy here!

If the version of XP that you are re-using is a Full Retail Version, then you
have the right to 'move' it to another computer.

It must be completely 'removed' from the first computer.

So format the hard drive of your first PC and then follow the prompts on
activation to perform the activation by 'phone'.

Eventually you will be asked if you wish to speak with a Microsoft
representative. Choose YES.

Now you can explain to the good person, that you

a] Originally installed your legal copy of XP [again it cannot be an OEM
edition, it must be a full retail version] originally on the first PC.
b] You bought a new PC and installed XP again on the new PC
c] Now that it is working correctly, you have removed it from the Old PC
d] You want to re-activate your licence on the new PC.

If all is in order then they will provide an activation code.

If you haven't met all the criteria, then you will need to buy a retail
version of XP.

By the way, a new PC generally is delivered with an OEM version of XP - it
only costs the system builder < US $100!

If you're reading the Product Key from a label affixed to your old
computer, it means that you have an OEM license. An OEM license is not
transferable to a new computer, under any circumstances. If you've
described the situation accurately, then WPA is functioning as it was
intended: to prevent illegitimate software copying. Buy a new license
for your new computer.
